IAOMS Foundation 12-Month Fellowships

Advanced international training in cleft and craniofacial surgery or oncology and microvascular reconstruction.

The IAOMS Foundation 12-Month Fellowship Program provides immersive international training for early- to mid-career oral and maxillofacial surgeons seeking advanced clinical experience in one of two specialty areas: Cleft Lip, Palate & Craniofacial Surgery or Oncology & Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery.

Fellows spend 12 months at a leading oral and maxillofacial surgery center in India or China, gaining exposure to complex cases, internationally recognized mentors and high-volume clinical environments. Each Fellow receives a USD $25,000 stipend to help support the fellowship experience.

The goal extends far beyond the individual Fellow. Participants return home prepared to apply what they have learned, share knowledge with colleagues and trainees, and strengthen oral and maxillofacial surgery care in their institutions and communities.

What Does the IAOMS Foundation Fellowship Provide?

Who Should Apply for an IAOMS Foundation Fellowship?

The 12-Month Fellowship Program is designed for early- to mid-career oral and maxillofacial surgeons seeking intensive international training in cleft and craniofacial surgery or oncology and microvascular reconstruction.

Strong candidates demonstrate:

• A commitment to advancing their clinical knowledge and surgical skills
• Interest and experience relevant to the fellowship specialty
• A commitment to improving patient care
• A desire to share knowledge with colleagues and trainees
• The potential to extend the impact of the fellowship within their institution, community or region

Who Is Eligible for the 2027–2028 Fellowship?

Applicants must:

• Be a current IAOMS member with at least two years of membership, meaning membership since October 2024 for the 2027–2028 application cycle.
• Commit to maintaining active IAOMS membership through December 31, 2028.
• Hold a dental or medical degree, or both, as required in their country or jurisdiction.
• Have completed basic oral and maxillofacial surgery training by June 30, 2026 and be within five years of completing that training at the time of application.
• Be able to communicate effectively in English.
• Demonstrate a commitment to educating colleagues and trainees and sharing knowledge following the fellowship.
• Agree to share their fellowship experience through IAOMS Foundation communications, which may include interviews, photographs and/or video.
• Submit a written report to the IAOMS Foundation within two months following completion of the fellowship.

What Is Required to Apply?

Applicants should prepare all required materials before beginning the application.

1. Online Application
   Complete the application for the fellowship track for which you wish to be considered. The application includes a personal statement.
2. Curriculum Vitae
   Submit a current CV outlining education, training, professional experience and relevant clinical or academic activity.
3. Professional Headshot
   Provide a current professional photograph.
4. Letter of Recommendation from Your Training Program Director
5. Letter of Privileges
   Provide a letter from your professor or department head outlining your current oral and maxillofacial surgery privileges, including types of surgery performed, diagnoses treated and frequency.
6. Two Additional Letters of Recommendation
   Submit two letters of recommendation from IAOMS members and/or representatives of your affiliated national oral and maxillofacial surgery association.
7. Three Professional References
   Provide the names and contact information for three professional references.
8. Signed Confidentiality Agreement
