The IAOMS Foundation is proud to announce the new Qiu Weiliu International Fellowship Program, a six-month advanced training opportunity created to honor the remarkable legacy of Prof. Qiu Weiliu and expand access to world-class education in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
The Qiu Weiliu International Fellowship Program builds on the IAOMS Foundation’s long-standing commitment to advancing education, training, and collaboration across the global oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty.
The program will support six months of immersive training at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Fellows will gain exposure to clinical and surgical procedures, academic engagement, research, and presentation opportunities in one of China’s leading oral and maxillofacial surgery institutions.
Through this experience, fellows will return to their communities with expanded expertise, stronger international networks, and new capacity to advance patient care, education, and collaboration in their home countries.
Prof. Qiu Weiliu’s legacy reflects the highest ideals of oral and maxillofacial surgery: clinical excellence, academic leadership, mentorship, and deep service to patients.
Remembered as a pioneer of oral and maxillofacial surgery in China and a devoted physician, educator, and scholar, Prof. Qiu Weiliu helped shape the specialty through his clinical work, research, teaching, and commitment to advancing care.
This fellowship carries Prof. Qiu Weiliu’s legacy forward by investing in surgeons who will bring new knowledge, skill, and perspective back to the communities they serve.
The Qiu Weiliu International Fellowship Program reflects the IAOMS Foundation’s belief that advanced surgical education has the power to strengthen care far beyond one institution or one country.
Fellows will participate in an immersive training experience at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital.
The program includes exposure to clinical practice, surgical education, research, and presentation opportunities.
Fellows will bring expanded expertise and international perspective back to their home communities.
The Qiu Weiliu International Fellowship Program is made possible through a generous $50,000 annual gift for three years from Dr. James Chow, a member of the IAOMS Foundation Board of Trustees.
The IAOMS Foundation also recognizes the leadership and dedication of Dr. Alfred Lau, IAOMS Foundation Trustee, whose efforts helped make this new program possible.
Together, their support reflects a shared belief in the power of education, international collaboration, and advanced surgical training to strengthen the future of the OMS specialty.
Advanced surgical training changes more than one surgeon’s path. It strengthens institutions, expands access to expertise, and improves care for patients around the world.
By supporting fellows through advanced training at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, the Qiu Weiliu International Fellowship Program helps build a stronger global network of surgeons equipped to teach, lead, innovate, and serve.
Applications for the Qiu Weiliu International Fellowship Program will open in September 2026 as part of the IAOMS Foundation’s annual program application cycle.
