IAOMS Visiting Scholars Program

(2026–2027 Cycle)

Expand your perspective through a short-term (2–4 week) observership at a leading oral and maxillofacial surgery training center. As a Visiting Scholar, you’ll observe clinical practice, participate in educational activities, and connect with global experts— returning home ready to share insights and strengthen OMS education and patient care in your institution.

Visit Duration: 2–4 weeks during the 2026–2027 cycle

Membership Requirement: Applicants must be current IAOMS members and commit to IAOMS membership through December 31, 2027.

Program Overview

  • Observational learning: Shadow clinical teams, attend teaching sessions, and study approaches used by top OMS departments.
  • Global connections: Build relationships with faculty and peers across regions.
  • Knowledge-sharing: Scholars commit to sharing lessons learned with colleagues upon return.

Financial Support

Each year, the IAOMS Foundation awards scholarships up to $5,000USD to help cover travel and living expenses for selected Scholars. Scholars are responsible for arranging travel, visas/immigration, insurances, and any host-country requirements.

Who Should Apply

  • OMS surgeons who have completed residency by June 30 of the application year (or within five years post-graduation).
  • Active IAOMS members seeking short-term, high-impact learning and international collaboration.
  • Applicants committed to reporting back and advancing OMS education at home.

Eligibility & Expectations

  • Applicants must be current IAOMS members and commit to IAOMS membership through December 31, 2027.   
  • Observership length: 2–4 weeks.
  • Submit a written report to the IAOMS Foundation within two months of returning.
  • Agree to share experiences via interview, photo and/or video.

Application Requirements

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Letter from your Department Head confirming approved leave for the proposed dates.
  3. Letter of recommendation from an IAOMS member.
  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a recent headshot photo.
  5. If approved: Letter of confirmation from the host Training Center.
