The International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) is the world’s voice for the specialty. As organized oral and maxillofacial surgery has developed over last 50 years on a national, regional and global level, the profession has organized itself in most countries to be affiliated with IAOMS. Now the IAOMS sits atop a pyramid of regional and national associations. The regional associations were founded on a continental definition; there are now six regional associations. Seventy-five countries currently make up the national association affiliations of IAOMS under the six regional umbrellas.
