CHICAGO, IL (April 1, 2016) -The International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) has appointed Mitchell Dvorak, MS, CAE, as the Executive Director of its Association and its Foundation, effective April 18, 2016.
Mr. Dvorak has extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations in the healthcare and patient safety fields. Most recently he was elected to the Board of Directors of Association Forum in 2015. He has also served as Chair of the 2014 - 2015 ASAE Small Staff Association Committee. In 2012 Mitch was named a Young and Aspiring Association Professional by Association TRENDS. Dvorak was also selected as a scholar in the ASAE Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP). As a DELP scholar, he participated in a leadership program of education and volunteer service in the association community.
"I am honored to have been selected as the next Executive Director of IAOMS," Dvorak said. "I am looking forward to building on the great foundation that has been established over the last 50+ years and look forward to working with the leadership, members and staff to take IAOMS and the Foundation to the next level."
Dvorak's appointment comes after a broad search that began when Pierre Désy, MPH, CAE, announced in March that he would be leaving after two years as Executive Director, in which he led IAOMS to its current prosperity. Kishore Nayak, MDS, FDSRCS (England) FDSRCPS (Glasgow) FFDRCS (Ireland), a past IAOMS President, has served as the Interim Executive Director of IAOMS since March.
"Mitch's experience in the nonprofit and healthcare sector together with his enthusiasm to work in a global environment will serve the Association well as we focus on this new phase of growth," said Julio Acero, MD, DMD, PhD, FDSRCS, FEBOMFS, IAOMS President. "His past experiences will help to strengthen IAOMS, amplifying the voices of our members, and carrying out our mission and vision."
Dvorak earned his graduate degree in Public Service Management from DePaul University and his bachelor's degree in Political Science/Public Administration from the University of North Dakota. Dvorak worked as an Account Executive at Bostrom Corporation in Chicago before joining IAOMS, serving as Executive Director of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies.
"The IAOMS Board of Directors extends its congratulations and support to Mr. Dvorak as he begins this new chapter in his career," said Acero "We could not have found a better person to help shape the strategic vision the Board has set out."
