ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Assistant Editor-in-Chief will collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief to maintain uniformity of editorial policy. He or she will be responsible for editing the following sections of the Journal: Head and Neck Oncology, Reconstructive Surgery, Clinical Pathology, and Oral Medicine, and will also be responsible for overseeing the international abstracts section and book reviews.

The closing date for applications is January 31, 2008. Please see attached document for more information.

At the 18th ICOMS in Bangalore, India in November, 2007, Nabil Samman began his two-year term as President. Dr. Samman first joined the IAOMS Executive Committee in 2001 as Chairman of the Education Committee. In that role, which he held until 2005, he and Dr. Paul Stoelinga developed the first educational program of the IAOMS Foundation, which took place in Hat Yai and Bangkok, Thailand during the years 2002-2006.

At the 18th ICOMS in Bangalore, Councilors elected a President-Elect, Larry W. Nissen of Florida, USA, and three members-at-large: Kishore Nayak, Bangalore, India; Joseph Piecuch, Connecticut, USA, and Henning Schliephake, Gottingen, Germany.

The IAOMS is pleased to announce the following awards were presented during the 18^th International Conference on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ICOMS), which took place on November 14-18, 2007 in Bangalore, India:

• Distinguished Fellow: Paul J. W. Stoelinga, The Netherlands

• Distinguished Service: Piet Haers, United Kingdom

An educational program that is especially aimed at the needs of a vast and under-developed region in Africa began in September, 2007. The series is co-sponsored by the East African Association and it assists the association with continuing and expanding their already existing training programs.

If your OMS association has submitted information for the IAOMS Newsletter in the past year, the first report of this kind has already been created and is posted with your association’s listing under: “About Us: Regional and National OMS Associations.” Simply click on your regional association or national association listing and follow the “Click here to read report” link at the end of the listing.

If you have something you would like included in your association’s report, please send them to your IAOMS Councilor (or association president, if no IAOMS Councilor has been appointed). He or she can then forward them to IAOMS headquarters c/o kspaedy@iaoms.org where the report/calendar item/photo will be placed into the report format and posted on the website.
